Ages / Levels

We do our best to clearly outline age ranges and levels for each class. For our younger dancers, classes are typically grouped by specific ages to ensure age-appropriate curriculum and development. As dancers grow older, placement becomes more individualized. In our upper age groups, levels may overlap and are determined by a combination of age, technical ability, experience, and dance genre. Because every dancer progresses at a different pace — and strengths can vary from ballet to hip hop to tap — placement is not always strictly age-based. Our goal is to place each student where they will feel confident, appropriately challenged, and set up for success. If you have questions about the best fit for your dancer, we’re always happy to help guide you.

Below will give you a tentative idea of our class leveling and ages.

Ages: 1.5 - 3 yrs.

For our youngest dancers, we offer one special class option: Parent Tot. This 45-minute class is designed specifically for children ages 18 months to 3 years and includes parent or caregiver participation.

Parent Tot is all about building confidence, social skills, and comfort in the studio while creating positive first experiences with dance. With the support of a trusted adult by their side, little ones are able to explore, engage, and grow at their own pace — making it the perfect introduction to the world of dance.

Level One classes are designed for dancers who have mastered the basics and are ready to build a strong foundation in their chosen style. These classes focus on developing proper technique, coordination, and rhythm while introducing more challenging combinations and skills. Level One is perfect for students who are ready to progress beyond beginner classes but still benefit from a supportive, structured environment as they continue to grow in confidence and ability.

Teen Classes

Our Teen classes are designed specifically for beginner-level dancers ages 13 and up who are interested in learning to dance in a supportive, age-appropriate environment. These classes are a great fit for teens who may be new to dance and prefer to learn alongside peers rather than being placed with younger students.

Offered in a variety of styles, Teen classes focus on building foundational technique, confidence, strength, and coordination — all while keeping the experience fun, encouraging, and low-pressure. It’s never too late to start dancing, and these classes are designed to help teens feel comfortable, capable, and inspired from day one.

Ages: 3 - 5 yrs.

For our 3–5 year olds, we offer one class option designed just for them: a Dance/Tumble Combo class. This class includes 30 minutes of dance and 30 minutes of tumbling, giving young movers a well-rounded introduction to both rhythm and coordination, as well as basic strength and flexibility. It’s the perfect balance of structure and fun, helping build confidence, listening skills, and foundational movement in a positive and encouraging environment.

Ages: 5 - 8 yrs.

Our Pre classes are designed especially for dancers ages 5–8. Any class labeled “Pre” is a great fit for this age group. These are combo-style classes that switch genres at the 30-minute mark, keeping dancers engaged, excited, and eager to learn. This format not only keeps things fresh and fun, but also gives students the opportunity to explore multiple styles of dance — helping them discover what they enjoy most at an early age while building a strong, well-rounded foundation.

Level Two classes are for dancers who have a solid grasp of foundational skills and are ready to take their technique and performance to the next level. These classes focus on refining movements, increasing strength and flexibility, and learning more complex combinations across various styles. Level Two challenges students while still providing a supportive environment, helping them build confidence, artistry, and a deeper understanding of dance.

Alaska Pride Dance Company

Our traveling, performing, and competition teams — Prestige, Prominence, Premiere, and Power — are designed for serious, committed dancers who are ready to take their skills to the next level. In addition to team class, dancers are required to attend ballet twice a week to support technique and performance growth. Placement on these teams is determined through an annual tryout, ensuring each dancer is placed where they can thrive. These teams offer opportunities to perform, compete, and travel, challenging dancers to grow in skill, artistry, and teamwork. Additional information is available upon request.

Classes at Level Three and above are designed for experienced dancers who have demonstrated strong technique, skill, and commitment. Placement in these classes is determined at the discretion of our teachers and directors, taking into account the student’s experience, growth, class roster, and the specific semester. These levels may vary depending on the dance genre or type of class. Some styles offer multiple levels, allowing for more age-specific groupings, while others have fewer levels, resulting in a mix of ages and skill levels within the class.
